Helping our students to have a vocation they can be passionate about

Northern College of Acupuncture Clinics

Established in 1988 the Northern College of Acupuncture is a registered charity. We educate acupuncturists, Chinese herbal medicine practitioners and nutritional therapists on our degree courses. The acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and nutritional therapy clinics are the teaching clinics for our students, under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced practitioners and our fees are lower than most private clinics. We also offer Chinese herbal medicine, Tuina Chinese massage and an "out of hours" acupuncture service. We are centrally situated on Micklegate with a private car park and disabled access.

We offer four clinics – click on each to access more information.

What is traditional Chinese Medicine?

Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and tuina massage have developed over the last 3000 years into a highly sophisticated system for understanding health and disease. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM for short) can treat recent, chronic or recurring problems. Sometimes it can make sense of illnesses that modern medicine has difficulty treating. Seeing health and illness from a TCM perspective enables us to treat subtle imbalances. This can not only relieve symptoms, but also improve the functioning of the immune system, regulate organ functions and create an enhanced sense of happiness and well-being. Chinese medicine is based on a model of inner balance, and the signs and symptoms you have indicate the ways in which your unique system may be out of balance. At the Northern College of Acupuncture Clinics we will explain to you how Chinese medicine sees your problem, and we will give you diet and lifestyle advice.

What is nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is the clinical application of science relating to the body’s utilisation of foods and nutrients. In a Nutritional Therapy consultation we look at daily food and drink intake, individual nutritional needs, nutritional status, environment and general lifestyle and the way these impact over the lifespan, including the present and in the longer term. The overall emphasis is on prevention, in order to optimise physical and mental health, while recognising each individual’s complex make-up.
